Abstract: The research studies challenges and opportunities for sustainable livelihood: a case studyin Srepok area, eastern plain landscape, Ratank Kiri province, Cambodia. Main objectiveof the research is tostudy the challenges and opportunities for achieving sustainablelivelihood activities on rice, cash crop and cattle production.This study is to throw light onthis field by setting up a concrete measurement of thecurrentlivelihood assets andassessment of vulnerability contexts and transforming structure and process which arefactors influence to rice, cash crop and cattle production. Economic sustainability of farmpractice is also measured.The researchwas an exploratory typewas conducted in the twovillages in the Northeast of Cambodia using a survey questionnaire with total of 116sample households as prime method for data collection. The research was focused on bothquantitative and qualitative analysis.Main findings of the research wereprofitability ofrice and cash crop production was low resultedfrom low net farm incomebutprofitabilityof cash crop production was greater than rice productionand furthermorefarm efficiencyof cash crop production in both villages was greater than rice production. Accordinglivelihood assets, human asset, socialasset and financial asset were low and physical assetwas in moderate while natural asset was in high status.Vulnerability contexts andtransforming structure and processes were seen in challenges and opportunities thatinfluence to rice, cash crop and livestock productionof farmers. The challenges wereloweducation, lack proper skills,limited access to agricultural information, low participation incommunity groups, low trust among each other in paying loan back to micro-finance,highmonthly interestrate of loan from money leaders,high use of pesticide on cash cropproduction against insects,no accessibility to irrigation systems, limited access to micro-finance, low investment of machinery
