Asian Development Bank–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP)

ADB-JSP scholarships are awarded at designated institutions (DIs) in the Asia and Pacific region for studies in economics, business and management, science and technology and other development-related fields.

A national of an ADB borrowing member country (applicants from countries that are no longer borrowing from ADB are not eligible for the ADB-JSP Scholarship)

A Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with a superior academic record.

At least two (2) years of full-time professional working experience (acquired after a university degree) at the time of application.

Proficiency in oral and written English communication skills to be able to pursue studies.

Not more than 35 years old at the time of application. In exceptional cases, for programs which are appropriate for senior officials and managers, the age limit is 45 years old.

In good health.

Should agree to return to his/her home county after completion of studies under the Program.

Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management and staff of ADB, consultants, and relatives of the aforementioned are not eligible for the Scholarship.

Staff of AIT are not eligible for the Scholarship.

Applicants living or working in a country other than his/her home country are not eligible for the scholarships.

ADB-JSP does not support applicants who are already enrolled in graduate degree programs.

ADB-JSP does not sponsor undergraduate studies, distance learning programs, short-term training, conferences, seminars, thesis writing, and research projects.

Priority to the ranking, or order of merit, proposed by AIT.

Applicants with less than two years of work experience will not be selected.

Preference to women candidates.

Preference to applicants with lesser financial capacity. Family income should be not more than USD 50,000 per year and individual income should not be more than USD 25,000 per year.

The Program will, in principle, not support applicants who have previously studied abroad.

The Program will, in principle, not support applicants who are pursuing a second MA.

Candidates who are applying at Designated Institute (DI-AIT) in their own country may not be selected.

Diversification of nationality in the overall Program as well as at each DI level will be considered.

The Program encourages studies in line with core areas of ADB’s Strategy 2030, which address poverty reduction through infrastructure, environment, regional cooperation and integration, finance sector development, and education. Strategy 2030, ADB’s strategy, sets ADB’s strategic course for its operations to the year 2030.

Have English proficiency score as required by AIT Language Center (IELTS-Academic: 6 (writing and overall) or AIT EET ≥ 6.0, TOEFL ≥ 550).

Work certificate provided by the employer.

Income statement. If married, please submit the spouse’s income statement; otherwise, the parent’s income statement. This document should be certified by the local Municipality.

Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD)

The DAAD Scholarship aims at fostering strong, internationally oriented higher education systems in Southeast Asia with the capacity to contribute to sustainable development. To this end, scholarships are granted for development-related Master studies for individuals who plan to pursue a career in teaching and/or research at a higher education institution in Southeast Asia.

DAAD Scholarship at AIT is Funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

For this scholarship, applicants need to apply for one of the following programs (Gender and Development Studies/GDS or Natural Resources Management/NRM) to be eligible for this scholarship. .

Must be nationals of one of the following countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, East Timor, Thailand, and Vietnam

Have successfully completed a three or four-year bachelor’s degree with above-average academic performance (upper third of class) not more than 6 years ago at the time of application.

Clearly show motivation and strong commitment.

Chinese Government Scholarships

The Scholarships are set up and directed by the Agreement between China Scholarship Council (CSC), Ministry of Education, China and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). The CSC Scholarships include the tuition fee, registration fee and research fee, the visa application fee, a living stipend (health insurance included), and one return international airfare to China by the most economical route.

The funding for each awardee of a Master’s degree program will be for up to 24 months.
CSC and AIT prioritize the following areas of study: Engineering, Technology, and Management.

Applicants must be citizens and permanent residents of the People’s Republic of China at the time of application.

Applicants must not be currently working or studying abroad;

The scholarship awardees must return to China upon the completion of their studies and/or research;

Applicants are encouraged to obtain information about AIT’s admissions requirements and admissions procedure. All Applicants should submit their applications for AIT programs and obtain a non-conditional or a conditional admissions letter.

All academic areas of AIT are eligible for consideration.

Applicants must satisfy the selection criteria set out by CSC at https://www.csc.edu.cn/chuguo and strictly follow the application schedule by completing the CSC Application Form and the CSC Employer Reference Form before 31 March every year.

March, all applicants should submit their online applications in the CSC portal http://apply.csc.edu.cn/ and upload a written admissions letter issued by AIT together with other required documents of CSC mentioned on the CSC website;

April, CSC will send AIT a list of applicants who meet the criteria, together with their documents.

April, AIT will accept applications from the applicants on the list of CSC and issue an admissions letter and send to CSC if they are qualified;

April – May, CSC will evaluate all qualified applicants for the scholarship; CSC and AIT will confirm the final result together;

By 31 May, CSC will announce the scholarship awardees and send AIT the name list along with their documents.

In June, AIT will process the files for visa application for the successful applicants from Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Thailand.

In August, the scholarship awardees will arrive at AIT for orientation and necessary procedures; the latest time of postponing enrollment will be the next Spring (January) Semester on the condition that both CSC and AIT receive and approve the request.

Royal Thai Government (RTG) Scholarships (Doctoral & Master’s)

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) administers a number of Doctoral and master’s level non-binding scholarships, provided by the Royal Thai Government (RTG), to qualified candidates with excellent academic qualifications from Thailand and other Asian countries. The scholarships provide an opportunity for students from diverse backgrounds across Asia to study and conduct research together in a truly international environment at AIT, building a solid foundation for International understanding among the people of Asia.

This scholarship is granted to qualified candidates with excellent undergraduate (Bachelor’s degree) and graduate (Master’s degree) achievements to pursue their Doctoral programs in any Academic Program offered at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering (FCEE), Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology (FAST), Faculty of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources (FFARN), Faculty of Climate Change and Sustainability (FCCS), and Faculty of Public Policy and Sustainable Development (FPSD)

  • Have an outstanding education record in a 4-year Undergraduate Program and 2-year Master’s Program from an accredited institution in related fields; GPA of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree ≥ 3.5 or equivalent
  • Two recommendation letters;
  • Research proposal;
  • Have an English proficiency score as required by AIT Language Center (IELTS 6.0 (Overall and Writing bands) or AIT EET ≥ 6.0).

This scholarship is awarded to qualified candidates from Asian countries who have demonstrated excellent undergraduate academic achievement and wish to pursue their first master’s degree in any academic program offered at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering (FCEE), Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology (FAST), and the School of Management (SOM).

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Have an outstanding education record in a 4-year undergraduate program from an accredited institution in related fields; GPA for Bachelor’s degree ≥ 3.5 or Equivalent

The Royal Thai Government grants the Loom Nam Khong Pijai Scholarships in honor of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The aim is to assist human resources development in 6 GMS countries, namely Cambodia, the Southern Part of China: Yunnan and Guangxi provinces, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Thailand, in any academic program related to the following four thematic areas:

  • Infrastructure Development
  • Energy Technology
  • Oil, Gas, and Natural Resources Development, and
  • Environmental Engineering and Management.

The scholarship provides an opportunity for students from diverse backgrounds across all countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion to study and conduct research together in a truly international environment at AIT, and to build a strong foundation for international understanding among people of Asia.

RTG Fellowships for Thai applicants

The vision of the Royal Thai Government (RTG) is to prepare the country and its people for the emerging ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). Through its non-binding RTG Fellowships at AIT, it seeks to prepare its engineers, scientists and managers to become global citizens and emerge as key drivers of Thailand’s international competitiveness. Thus, generous academic fellowships are being offered to Thai students to pursue Master’s and Ph.D. programs

Eligibility

1. cGPA:
Bachelor’s: ≥ 2.75/4 or equivalent ( 4 Years)
Master’s: ≥ 3.50/4 or equivalent (2 Years)
In cases where the applicant does not meet GPA criteria, he or she can submit an article indexed in Scopus along with the GPA to fulfill the criteria.

Have an English proficiency score as required by AIT Language Center (IELTS 5.5 (Writing band) or AIT EET ≥ 5.5). Should the score be 5.0, the applicant is required to attend the Bridging Program to obtain a score of 5.5 from the Bridging Program before enrollment.

RTG Fellowships cover tuition and registration fees, but do not cover accommodation fees or living expenses.

Eligibility Restriction for RTG Fellowship Recipients Pursuing a Second Degree (Master’s/Doctoral): Applicants who have previously received an RTG Fellowship for a master’s or doctoral degree program at AIT are ineligible to receive another RTG Fellowship for pursuing a second degree at the same level (e.g., second master’s or second doctoral degree), regardless of the academic degree program.
