We express our deepest gratitude to the estate and family of Prof. Karl E. Weber for their generous support and for continuing the impactful legacy of the late Professor Emeritus Karl E. Weber.
A pioneering academic and institution builder, Professor Weber played a defining role in shaping AIT’s academic and strategic trajectory during critical periods of its growth. Beginning his journey as an Associate Professor, he was a founding faculty member of the Rural Development Planning field of study within the Human Settlements Development (HSD) Division. Over his distinguished career, he served as Chairman of the HSD Division, Founding Dean of the School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD), Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Vice President for Management.
His visionary leadership transformed the former Regional and Rural Development Planning (RRDP) program into the modern Development Planning, Management, and Innovation (DPMI), and later into the Development, Innovation and Sustainability (DIS) academic program under the Faculty of Public Policy and Sustainable Development (FPSD). His lifelong dedication to integrated development across regional planning, environmental conservation, urban development, gender, and participatory planning laid a vital foundation for our Faculty today.
Through his estates dedication, Prof. Weber’s vision of empowering future scholars and driving positive social change lives on.
We are proud to announce that Mr. Htay Lwin Oo, a Master’s student in our Gender and Development Studies (GDS) program, has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious The Karl Weber’s Scholarship.
Mr. Htay Lwin Oo was chosen from a highly competitive pool of 9 outstanding nominees across three different academic programs in our Faculty. This award stands as a testament to their exceptional academic dedication, passion, and vision for driving social impact through gender equality and development.
