Abstract: Rural development plays a vital role in narrowing the income gap between urban and rural areas, which has been a major problem in Thailand over many years. Rural women, especially farm women, are contributing in a major way to rural and community development, socially as well as economically. In recognition of the indispensable role of farm women, the Department of Agricultural Extension has emphasized working with them by forming groups. More specifically, the Farm Home Improvement Section under the department encourages farm women to organize groups and assists them in carrying out development activities in the rural areas. In the present study, an attempt has been made to assess the effectiveness of the farm women’s groups promoted by the District Agricultural Extension Office in Khlung district of Chanthaburi province. Furthermore, recommendations have been formulated for promoting better achievement of the groups, based on problems and constraints considered to be facing the supporting agencies and the groups, problems derived from the national policy and guidelines regarding the farm women program, and problems hindering non-participation of other women.
