Abstract: Tourism is anessential industry makinga significant contribution to the development of host countryand it supports social and economic development. It plays a vital role to enhance the economic development of host country and host organization within a short periodof time without exploiting the natural resources. Tourism, hence, can be termed as a socio-cultural institution with different economic and social dimension. Tourist activities are complex and varied in terms of their intensity and effects according to the specific location and nature of the impacts. Bagan areas are the most major tourist attractions and destinations in Myanmar renowned for its ancient cultural heritage with2,230 monuments built in the period between the 11thto13thcenturies. The study assesses the socio-economic impacts of tourism in Bagan areas. Theobjective of the studyis to assess tourist flows and needs, to identify infrastructure development trough tourism development and to study socio-economic impacts of tourism and finally to recommend strategies and policies strengthening tourism in Baganareas. The research wasconducted with three groups of survey questionnaires: one for local people with 80 sample sizes, international and domestic tourist: each for 30 sample size. Other data collection methods were key informant interview, focus group discussion and field observation. The research emphasized onboth ofquantitative and qualitative analysis.Main findings of this research was tourist flows assessinginternational and domestic tourists whichwere increasing and their needs in Bagan areas were internet problems, boat service systembut mostly they got satisfaction on Bagan trip. On the side of infrastructure, the train transportation needed to enhance not only for domestic tourists but also for local people and the socio-economic impacts of tourism in Bagan areas was positive impacts outweighed the negative one
