Abstract: The study focuse s on rural – urban transport linkages with potential contribution to rural development. This was conducted in two areas of Panom Dong Rak district. One area was with well developed transport network and the other area was relatively remote with poor road connectivity. The b road objective was to make a comparative study between two Tambons for analyzing the impacts of rural – urban linkages through transport networks on rural development. Graph theoretic techniques were applied to identify the l evels of transport development a household questionnaire survey, group discussion s and case studies were also done to assess the impact s of transport linkages on diversifying occupation, flow of agricultural produces, flow of labor force and mobility of people for social services. Road networks in terms of quantity, quality and above all road connectivity in two selected study areas are distinctly different. The people in less developed area were relatively more travel time in accessing the service centers to meet their consumption and p roduction related services. The findings reveal that people in well developed road transport network area were greater opportunities for employment, gaining higher income, stimulating and competitive market prices for their agricultural produces, receiving remittances from the family member, getting higher education and better health services. It is recommended for improving the quality of network and connectivity to support and strengthen the overall process of rural development.
