Abstract: At present, the strategy of industrialization by mean of the promotion of rural industries and small scale industries is used to develop the lagging regions in Thailand. Furthermore, the understanding of the linkage pattern of the industries is believed to help device appropriate policy for industrial development. The linkage pattern of small scale industry in Chiangmai Province comprises the functional linkage and the fostered relationship/linkage concerning the entrepreneurs. The strength of the functional linkage is measured through the vertical stages of the business cycle in terms of the purchase of input supplies and sale of the products, made by the establishment concerned of three industries in Muong district and the other six adjoining districts. The comparative examination is considered by types of industries and by groups of the establishments which is categorized by the size of employees. The relationship/linkage concerning the entrepreneurs is examined through the mutual assistance and cooperation among the entrepreneurs and between the entrepreneurs and the Government agencies. The strength of linkage pattern is found very strong among the groups of establishments which employ less than 50 workers, in other word, it is horizontal linkage. The vertical linkage is also performed in the nature of sub-factory of the mother firm in Bangkok. In addition, the very small (Group 1) and small (Group 2) establishments are more oriented to local market than the larger establishments are more oriented to local market than the larger establishments. The three industries are also oriented to local market for input supplies and sale. There is substantial linkage within the sector and other sectors for input supplies. Finally, the relationship among the entrepreneurs is found more favorable than with the Government agents. The attempt to strengthen the relationship/linkage between the entrepreneurs and the Government agents is undergoing.
