Abstract: The research assessed social and economic benefits from vocational training on occupational development in rural Thailand. Main objectives of the research were to examine participation of local people in vocational training programs on occupational development and their motivation factors to analyze social and economic benefits of the vocational training on occupational development to assess satisfaction on the benefits received from vocational training program and identify problems and needs in occupational development and to give recommendations to strengthen the vocational training program on occupational development in rural Thailand.The respondents were purposively selected from trainees from non-formal education (NFE) on food processing and traditional massages who attended the training program at least for more than two years. The respondents included NFE trainees of both business and non-business operators and business operators of non-NFE trainees. A questionnaire survey was conducted for those sampled respondents.Other data collection methods were field observation, key informants and group discussion. The research was focused on quantitative analysis with the support of qualitative approach. Major findings of the research found that local people participated in diversified vocational training programs on occupational development organized by NFE which the number of trainees increased during the last five years. On food processing and traditional massage, most of the respondents attended the training only once or twice a year. Main reasons to join in the vocational training were due to both social and economic motivation factors.
