Abstract: From the late 1980s and through the 1990s, with migrants flowing to Yunnan along the Chengdu -Kunming railway, drugs became prevalent in the previously isolated Liangs han YI community and a lot of YI people infected by HIV due to drug abuse. Unfortunately, more and more YI women are becoming the victims of the HIV due to lacking of awareness of self -protection and HIV prevention knowledge. As a responding, the ‘ Liangshan YI Women and Children Development Centre ’ has conducted three HIV prevention projects to enhancing the rural YI wo men ’s HIV prevention knowledge. However, during the process of project implementation, it was founded that women ’s participation is a problem. This studying attempted to understand that the extent of rural YI women ’s participation in various development stages of the project circle and to identify factors affecting rural YI women ’s partic ipation in the project. Research analys is involved data collected from feed back of questionnaire, key informants interview and group discussion which conducted in study area and from secondary data. This stud y argues that women ’s participation in projects is limited by their social -economic background such as education, culture value, income and domestic workload. On the other hand, women ’s participation influenced by structure, financial and human resource as well as the project strategies of the LYWCD. Moreover, some unfavorable factors such as lack of monitoring process in development of project， lack of access to project information, overburden in domestic work and poor transportation condition
