Abstract: Like other developing countries, rural out – migration within and between the countries is not a new phenomenon in Myanmar. In dry zone area of central Myanmar, about 80 percent of the total population is living in rural areas and agricultural sector provide s the main sources of income, food and employment for local people. In recent decades, high input cost and comparatively low return from crop production under the unfavorable weather conditions derived the dry zone farmers to sell their physical assets and to involve new income diversification strategies including labor migration. However, the relationship between out – migration and subsequence remittances impacts on agricultural crop production at origins has been given little attention by researchers and p olicy makers at micro and macro levels. The study uses original household level survey data and tries to identify the determinant factors influencing household migration decision and examines the out – migration of family members and the contribution of remi ttance impacts on small, medium and large scale land holding households‘ crop production and crop income in both rain – fed and irrigated areas of the study township in the dry zone area. The empirical findings revealed that the common influencing factors on household migration decision in both rain – fed and irrigated areas were endowment of male labor in a family, unwilling of family members to work in traditional agriculture, inadequate crop production land and having families as well as social migration net work. In rain – fed area, the lower crop income also influenced the more possibility of household migration decision. The impacts of out – migration and remittances showed the mixed and countervailing effects on agricultural crop production and crop incomes of different land
