Abstract: The research assessed the effects of Luzuo Copper Mining Factory on the Yi ethnic group in rural area of China. The objectives of the research were to evaluate economic , social and environmental effects of the Luzuo copper mining factory on Yi ethnic group t o analyze the problems and needs faced by the local the local people facing and assess satisfaction of local people on the effect s on them caused by the factory and t o give recommendations to reduce negative effects and enhance positive effects from the factory to local people and to provide planning implication. T he effects of the factory were focused on the direct effects to local people in househo ld and community level which were evaluated in economic, social and environmental aspects. T he research was conducted in two affected villages namely Tong and Chiga in Luzuo Town, Dayao County in Yunnan Province of China. Primary data was collected from 90 households using questionnaire survey, interviews and group discussion and key informants including the head of the village committee and staff of the factory. Q ualitative as well as quantitative technique s were applied in data analysis. Main findings of this research were that the copper factory induced economic , social, and environmental effects on both Tong and Chiga villages. Among those effects , the economic effects are the most remarkable one s . Both of the villages were supported by the factory on infrastructure improv ement particularly on road improvement, piped and tap water supply, electricity and connection of TV network system in both study villages . Furthermore, the land loss of affected households constrained thei r agricultural development and also the land loss compensation was not enough to cover the los s in land . Finally, the factory also provides employment opportunities to the local people particularly affected households.
