Abstract: The research on “Primary Education among Internally Displaced Child ren in Myanmar: Case Study in Kachin State†attempts to address four objectives (1) to assess the status of primary education among IDP children (2) to explore causes of dropout (3) to assess challenges concerning primary education among IDP children in Myitkyina (4) to recommend for improving primary education among IDP children. With the purpose to respond to research objectives, both quantitative and qualitative approaches were applied. Questionnaire surveys were used to assess teacher, dropout children and their parents. In – depth interview, key informant interview and focused group discussion were conducted to obtain deeper information about status of primary education, causes of dropout and challenges concerning primary education of IDP children. In analyzing the data gathered, descriptive statistics analysis was used to approach quantitative data, whereas qualitative statement analysis was used to analyze qualitative data gained from open – ended questions in the standardized questionnaire, face – to – face and in – depth interview, key informant interview and focused group discussion. According to the findings on the status of education, three main points are highlighted. They are (1) dropout rate is obviously high in every year, (2) there is no a significant decline nor a remarkable fluctuation in the number of enrolled students between three consecutive school years despite the high dropout rate in each year, (3) completion rate is shown as perfectly 100%, however the universal definition of completion rate is not applied in calculation in completion rate.
