Abstract: The study has demonstrated that much of the power within the current Commune/Sangkat Council still largely rests on men. However, there is more latitude for elected women officials within the Commune/Sangkat Council to advance their own interests and agenda as provided by the new policy. Currently, the power wielded by elected women officials depends on whether they belong to the dominant political party. This study therefore shows how gender intersects with the influence wielded by political parties.
