Abstract: The research explores the different gender roles in cassava production, the different level of access to and control over resources and services and how these differences affect the status of men and women. It also aims to analyze how income from cassava is used and who has control over income within the household, and how it affects other livelihoods strategies. Tramung Commune, a cassava producing area, was selected as a case study. Generally, livelihood depends on on-farm, off-farm and non-farm work. Findings show that women have equal power in decision-making in all activities because of joint decision-making. However, decision-making over income is mostly done by women, who traditionally manage money therefore income generation can lead to their empowerment. Conversely, women are invisible in agricultural training. Generally, livelihood strategies shifted from past crops like cashew nut and highland paddy rice, to cassava. The changes have improved living standard and impacted gender relation in terms of division of labor and control over resources. The shift from cashew nut plantation to cassava production was positive for women although they may become overburdened. However, the change from highland paddy rice to cassava had no impact on gender relations, division of labor or decision making
