Abstract: Young married women are left behind from the policy and program about teenage marriage in Indonesia. The unique conditions of young married women either the youth program or the program that targeting adult women may not consider them in their program. Exploring whether and how women’s agency exercised is crucial for advancing gender equality and empowerment of young married women. In- depth interviews, key informant interviews, focused group discussions and observation had been used to collect data for this qualitative study. The study reveals that young married women in teenage marriage situation have reflection of agency. The study exposed that young married women show variation of agency in in three levels and eight domains and social and cultural context affecting young married women exercising their agency. Findings suggested that the provision of sexual and reproductive health information and services in the society that free of stigma and discrimination are needed for unmarried young people and the provision of livelihood programmes and programmes that develop life skills that intended for young married women.
