Abstract: Rural-urban disparity is one of the central problems around the world, and there appears to be a tenacious tendency for this gap to increase over time, with urban people enjoying most of the fruits of any development that takes place. The greatest challenge that lies ahead for rural-urban disparity is related to the underdevelopment of the national. This issue is quite severe in Bangladesh, where the intensity of disparity is widening over the periods. The study described the pattern and trend of rural-urban disparities in different regions (divisions) of Bangladesh within the context of level of urbanization with respect to three time periods (1981, 1991 and 2001) through panel regression analysis and analyzed rural¬urban disparities at the local level. It also analyzed the key factors contributing to rural¬urban disparities at the regional level, which is mainly based on literature review. It also incorporated the key factors contributing to rural-urban disparities at the local level based on rural household respondents’ perceptions and key informant’s interview. It also evaluated the related policies and programs and their related outcomes based on secondary sources of data as well as respondents’ perceptions and key informant’s interview. The research has experienced that the patterns of the level of urbanization as well as the rural-urban disparity among the regions are always same. It has also found that the higher is the urbanization, the greater is the rural-urban disparity among the regions and this pattern is repeating over the periods as the pattern of the level of urbanization among the regions is also repeating. Again, this gap is widening within the same time periods. i.e. the key factor contributing to regional rural-urban disparity is skewed distribution of the level of urbanization. Again, rural-urban disparity is statistically significant at the local level also and the factors contributing to this are the problem in the marketing of farm produces, poor road infrastructure, absenc
