Abstract: The study explores the awareness, accessibility, social and benefits gained from the social welfare program including four key projects namely the Pension for the Older Persons (POP), the Home Health Care (HHC), the Multipurpose Senior Citizen Center (MSCC) and the Community Volunteer Caregivers for Elderly (CYCE). All these mentioned projects are under piloted for the current national policy implementation related to elderly in Thailand. The main objectives of the research were to examine the awareness and the accessibility of rural elderly on social welfare program provided by the government, to evaluate social and economic benefits of the rural elderly obtained from the implementation of the social welfare program, to assess the satisfaction of the rural elderly on the social welfare programs, to identify problems and prospects of the social welfare program, and to suggest recommendations to improve the policy and the implementation of the social welfare program of the government for the rural elderly in Thailand. The research was conducted in Khao Suan K wang district, Khon Kaen province, in the northeastern Thailand. The study was an exploratory research using primarily quantitative approach with the support of quantitative statement and analysis. A questionnaire survey was conducted with a total of 70 elderly respondents in two villages of Ban Pa Wai Nang where is located nearer to the senior center and in Ban Nong Song Hong where is a bit further from the center in location. Other data collection methods used consisted of in¬depth interview, focus group discussion and case studies. The key findings showed that majority of the respondents were mostly aware and accessible to the four projects under this study by both elderly men and women. The services provided were mostly accessible by the elderly in both villages in order include HHC, POP, MSCC and CYCE respectively.
