Abstract: This study analyzed farmers’ access to, and use and repayment of credit provided by the Agribank, Vietnam using primary data collected through a household survey. The findings of the study revealed that the Bank could not meet farmers’ demand for credit as the overwhelming majority of them could get small amounts of credit. A considerable percentage of credit was used for non – agricultural activities for several reasons including low income of farmers and lack of monitoring of th e use of credit by the Bank. Nearly half of small of medium, and nearly one third of large farmers could not repay credit on time for various reasons ranging from fluctuation of the prices of agricultural products to damage of crops by natural hazards.
