Abstract: The general objective of the research was to assess factors affecting o ccupational development in dressmaking of young women in rural Myanmar. The specific objectives were to examine participation of young women and factors that are motivated in vocational training on dressmaking to study business operation in dressmaking of young women and analyze factors affecting its continuation and discontinuation to assess occupational knowledge gained and skill enhancement of young women obtained from the dressmaking training program to evaluate economic effects of vocational trainin g on young women focusing on occupation, employment and income earned from dressmaking of young women and to make recommendations to strengthen the implementation on occupational development program of dressmaking for young women in rural Myanmar. The re search was conducted in twenty seven villages in Demoso Township of Kayah State in Myanmar. The samples were drawn from young women who had been the trainees of the vocational training program on dressmaking from three different categories of the trainees from discontinuation of dressmaking after training continuation of dressmaking after training and quit later on and continuation of dressmaking after training. A standardized questionnaire survey was used as a prime tool for data collection. Field observ ation, in – depth interviews for case studies, key informants interview, focus group discussions were also used. The research applied both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Main findings of this research showed that many young women participated in several vocational training programs on dressmaking organized by KMSS – Loikaw which economic benefit was their main motivated factors. Some women were successful in establishing their business operation and some were not due to several factors.
