Abstract: Many measures have been done to solve problem of slums and squatters. This study is aimed to test the validity of slum reconstruction as one such solution, taking the Soi Bhavana slum on private land in Bangkok as an example. A set of questionnaires was designed for a census survey to provide information for the financial analysis of the slum reconstruction project and the community residents’ attitudes toward the scheme. Findings of the study show that in terms of the financial aspect, the scheme can be developed as a method to solve the problem of sheltering the poor through their own resources and their willingness to participate.
