Abstract: Migration rate is escalating each year in Nepal. Many studies show that rural households are now depended on at least one member earning away from home and often abroad. Vast numbers of migrants areleavingbehind their household members, dependents, at the origin to venture economic gain abroad. And during this separation period, migrants‟ household members experience variouspsychosocial problems in absence of the key member. This exploratory researchis based on qualitativeapproach which focuseson social and psychological cost endured by the male and female migrants‟ household members(spouse, children and elderly)at the origin. Italso aims to understand factors influencing socialand psychological cost in household members and understand their copingmechanism. This studyused survey research withsamplesize consistingof 50 married migrants‟households,25 male migrants and 25 female migrants. Respondents of this study arethree migrants‟ household members-spouse, children and elderly. The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CES-D) Scale is used to examine the depression level of the respondents whereasHome, Education/Employment, Eating, Activities, Drugs, Sexuality, Suicide/Depression and Safety (HEEADESS) psychosocial assessment interview method is used on adolescent children.Findingsof this study showsthatmigrant‟s gender plays a huge role on type of socialand psychologicalcosts endured by the household members. Andsocial and psychologicalcosts arefound comparatively high among spouses of male migrantsand among the children and elderly of female migrants.There is policy gap for the welfare and protection of the migrants‟families hence it is necessaryto draw government and civil society (I/NGOs) attentionas well asto take effective measurementssuch as providing counseling and facilitating telecommunicationto mitigate social and psychologicalcostsendured by the mig
