Abstract: Smallholder farmers in developing countries face substantial challenges due to labor shortages and limited access to modern agricultural technologies. This study evaluates the impact of the 3-in-1 groundnut seeder technology on agricultural practices in Myanmar’s Dry Zone. This research aims to assess the diffusion for adoption of the 3 in-1 groundnut seeder among smallholder farmers, and to analyze its impacts on their socioeconomic. A mixed-methods approach was employed, integrating both quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data were collected through surveys to measure diffusion of adoption, influence factors on adoption, and socioeconomic impacts. Qualitative insights were assembled from semi-structure surveys that explored farmers’ experiences and the challenges encountered in technology adoption. Findings indicate that the 3-in-1 groundnut seeder has significantly decreased sowing cost and enhanced moisture saving, with a reduction in sowing time by about 40%, 50% for farm animals, 50% seed rate and 60% for labor requirements. Socioeconomically, adopters have seen improvement in food security, health and well-being compared to non adopters. The adoption rates, however, are influenced by factors such as gender, education level, and correlation with sown area and income from groundnut crop. The study suggests that wider adoption of the seeder could substantially improve productivity and economic outcomes for farmers in the Dry Zone. Recommended strategies to enhance adoption include the implementation of farmer education programs and the setup of demonstration projects to highlight the seeder’s benefits. The 3-in-1 groundnut seeder represents a crucial advancement for improving agricultural efficiency and enhancing the livelihoods of farmers in Myanmar’s Dry Zone. Addressing the adoption barriers can lead to more sustainable and productive agricultural practices, thereby contributing to regional agricultural development.
